Ala Moana-Sheridan Community Plan ~ Island of Oahu
Expected Completion Date: Spring 2007
Client: City and County of Honolulu, Department of Planning and Permitting

PlanPacific is preparing a community-level master plan for the Ala Moana-Sheridan area, which encompasses older residential neighborhoods as well as Honolulu's principal retail district and convention center. Like many older urban areas, Ala Moana-Sheridan faces the challenges of aging, sometime obsolete, infrastructure and potential disinvestment due to nonconforming development. At the same time, major new retail establishments and proposed transit improvements are poised to transform this area. Ala Moana-Sheridan faces some complex challenges to create better conditions for pedestrians, improve access to recreation facilities, and retain significant scenic views while accommodating change. The project team is working closely with the City planning staff and a community-based task force committee to develop guidance for zoning, urban design, and public improvements.
