Standards and Design Precepts for Future Parks
Date : 2004
Client : City and County of Honolulu, Department of Parks and Recreation
The City and County of Honolulu contracted PlanPacific to prepare a long-range master plan for the development and management of municipal park facilities throughout the island of O'ahu. The plan analyzed current park user preferences and patterns of use, projected future park land and facility demand, evaluated current standards and design criteria, and investigated approaches for financing and managing parks and recreation facilities as the islandwide park system is expanded to accommodate future needs.
As a follow-up to this plan, the Department of Parks and Recreation and Hawai'i Department of Health contracted PlanPacific to investigate the potential for a pilot program to conduct City-sponsored after-school recreation activities on public high school campuses in urban Honolulu, where demand for park space is particularly high. Farrington High School was selected as the first site.
